Crazy crazy Pat Robertson
So the head of the Christian Coalition (that already sounds crazy) urged the United States to "assasinate" the president of Venezuela on Monday... he claimed that it would be an easy way to get rid of a guy promoting terrorism, communism, and islamic terrorists... sounds like a terrorist to me! In fact, doesn't Osama Bin Ladin come out with these periodic tapes that urge others to kill their enemies.. hmmm.. of course Bush denounced it, as he should.. but how the hell is that supposed to look to the rest of the world.. someone on CNN put it in interesting terms.. he said how does it look that we claim we are promoting democracy in other parts of the world, and at the same time we have leaders in the US urging people to assasinate other leaders that we don't "like". And then the moron goes further the next day to apologize, while actually denying that he used teh actual term "assasinate".. but instead he says that there are other things a country could do to get rid of leaders... such as kidnapping them...!!! YES, it's true... he actually used the word "kidnap" the Venezuelan guy.. what a fucking moron! I wonder if he has any remote idea of what went on in south american during the 70's and 80's... when people were constantly being kidnapped in the middle of the night, and killed for political reasons... hmmm... I tell you, there are fundamental idiots from all religions, and all parts of the world.. someone please shut up this one... oh, by the way.. he also claims some responsibility in helping to elect Bush in 2000 and 2004.. now I feel much better living in this country!

Hooked on Harry
I spent a lot of the weekend talking about Harry Potter rumors for the next and final book of the series. So much fun.. so interesting.. who is RLB?? And I can't believe that Dumbledore died.. by Snape no less! And so I now spend many more months waiting until the next book finally comes.. so sad.
Financial Aid Crisis
So I recently found out, two weeks prior to starting my medical school that my financial aid stuff is not complete!!! Oh my god... and this I found out after calling and confirming twice with Rush that I had indeed completed all of the work required for my financial aid.. apparently I had never filled out a Stafford Loan application.. and that loan is for living expenses, ie my apartment rent, groceries, etc! This is a big deal.. The lady at Rush told me that apparently some computer screens show my paper work as complete whereas others don't show it as complete.. how fucking annoying. So I had to spend all my time on the phone with Rush financial aid office and Sallie Mae trying to figure out what the hell happened and how to correct the situation.. Honestly, I feel that financial aid is this crazy complicated vague concept, kind of like some metaphysics concept that can never be deciphered and understood.. I really don't think there is any person out there in the entire world who actually understands financial aid and what the hell is going on!!! AHHH!!!

Cleaning!
I spent my afternoon yesterday cleaning my apartment, that I thought was clean... amazing how deceiving walls and bathrooms can be! ;) Not to mention, having already lived here for about a week, my hair is already all over the place.. so cleaned I did.. swiftered to be more precise. And then Susan and I started hanging up decorations on the walls.. mirrors and the such.. when we realized that there is dust on the walls!!!! How the hell does dust settle on vertical walls?!! So Susan and I swiftered all of the walls. Afterwards we looked at the dust rag and it was disgusting dirty! Yuck yuck yuck!

"Girl" Crushes
I read an interesting article in the NY Times last week about something called "girl" crushes. It's not a sexual/lesbian thing. But instead when women admire other women so much that is beyond normal fascination. The article described some women who feel flushed and sweat when they get in teh presence of other women whom they admire extremely.. interseting article! Apparently they have a deep admiration for each other.. personally it sounds a little creepy, and lesbian like.. but could make sense every now and then. After all, there are some girls who do gush over other girls.. it sure does explain a lot! Especially with regard to popular girls and those who fawn all over them, imitate their clothes and all that stuff.. a good example could be in the movie Mean Girls when the popular girl accuses the goth girl of being a dike in the 8th grade.. :) I can't believe I am referencing Mean Girls! But, an even better reference: you know that this phenomen is legit because even Cosmo referred to it in the magazine for this month!
Four Brothers
Pretty good film over all.. Mark Wahlberg looked pretty good in it as well. He's real believable as a kid from the hood, but thats because he is a kid from the hood :) It has been real nice the last few days spending time with my bf.. lots of fun. Especially being back with him! It's like nothing has changed at all... I am still at Case, and we're just having a jolly good time.. tonight we're even going to go to Golden Corral for some dinner.. gotta love those buffets! Perfect day, hanging around, video games, movie, and now some good ol' dinner.. couldn't ask for more!
Go see Four Brothers.. great flick.. super super funny too! ;)

Another Corporate Experience
Last night I had another encounter with teh corporate world. I went out on a celebratory dinner for the end of bf's internship.. at this super hardcore expensive seafood restaurant! You couldn't even believe how nice and luxurious of a place this was.. best of all, it was all expensed to the company! Score! And we did the full course, wine and dine experience.. (I even had wine the whole night! ;) We started with this appetizer platter that was a meal in and of itself... it was this huge steel thing of ice filled wiht a whole lobster, humungous shrimp, mussels, oysters... you name it.. it was called the shellfish appetizer.. I was already full after that! and then we got our meals.. which was very good. I had a grilled mahi mahi. And we shared the sides of creamed corn, mashed potatos, asparagus.. etc.. yummmy! and then we got these desserts! there was this crazy cake.. I really would hate to see the bills..
But the whole night really was a testament to how well his experience was with the company. they don't take every intern out like this, let alone her girlfriend! They were even trying ot feel me out and to get a sense of how I liked Minneapolis and St. Paul. Very cool.. I was stuffed by the end of the night. But I didn't make a fool of myself, and definitely acted my age. looks like I am ready for the corporate world! ;)

Maybe it's Me....
I don't know what it is.. but trying to become an "adult" is the most frustrating experience I am having! Everywhere I turn, every move I try to make, I am thwarted in my attempts by all parties.. my parents, brother, and even friends. A great example is the apartment stuff... Everyone has to have their own input into the apartment.. my roommate's parents think my curtain/drape idea is too much, we don't need to have it... my mom wants to have a say in every single aspect and decision I make... and worse of all, my roommate's parents said it quite well, "this is not your home"... well if it's not my home then what the hell is it??? A temporary home, sure... after all, medical school isn't for the rest of my life.. but believe me, I have moved out of my parents house and I have no intention of coming back... and yet they just don't seem to get it.. so fucking annoying. I really really wish now that I would have either been accepted into a medical school in another state, or else an MPH program, where I would be in Tulane now.. I Just want to scream and tell them to get out of my hair.. get out of my way.. this is MY apartment, MY home.. and I will do with it what I please.. in fact! I will spend MY money to make it look the way I want it to look... I mean, the trip to Jo-Ann Fabrics with my mom and roommate was priceless.. they are standing around looking at me like I am crazy all the while asking me what exactly I plan to do with the fabric.. please! I am old enough to want a place that doesn't look like a random assortment of crap put together. But maybe it's me. Maybe I don't communicate my wishes very well.. I can't deny, I am not the most patient person dealing with my parents. It's got to be me, because I don't know how many different way I can tell them to leave my decisions alone.. they just don't get it!

An Ode to Bonzo
Well.. unfortunately as is apparent from the date of this post, I am back in the states. In fact, I have been back since Thursday night... but Thursday's travel back to the states is a blog in and of itself.. what a nightmare.. but that is for another blog! This blog shall be dedicated to an interesting guy we met on the Eurorail on the way to Florence.. Bonzo..
Bonzo was such an interesting guy.. looking at him, you would think he was such a dopey, fun loving... benign type of guy. But man, talk about depth to a person! He was so friendly, we talked to him for about 2 and a half hours on the train. He was really into heavy metal music, used to have a real real long goatee, is part of the Italian Tolkein society, and used to do the scary devil sounding voice in a heavy metal band... oh, and he wears a necklace with celtic symbols on it.. interesting! What a crazy combination of things. At one point he even demonstrated his devil voice.. oh my God it was so scary to hear such an inhuman sound come from him! It was so funny listening to him talk about his life in his broken italian/english.. he even offered us some gum!
We met a ton of really interesting peopole in Europe, including a woman who had been backpacking for the last 20 years.. but Bonzo was definitely one of the coolest!
And now, back in the states.. the next project is getting the apartment set up.. making impromptu trips to visit the bf.. (yesterday I drove 6 hours to see him in MN, and then drove 6 hours back in the morning... for a culminated stay of about 12 hours... but it was fun!)
And soon medical school!
